Zarine Katrak Movies & Early Life

Zarine Katrak Khan was born in 1947 to a Parsi family in Mumbai, India.

A family of Pathan brothers moved to Zarine’s neighborhood in Jassawala Wadi in Juhu when she was 14 years old and in 9th grade.

Feroz, Sanjay, Sameer, and Shahrukh were all dashing brothers. In one of her interviews, Zarine mentions that

One morning I had gone to the beach for a walk with my friend. I saw Abbas (Sanjay’s real name) walking along the shoreline ahead of us. As if by telepathy he turned around and wrote something on the sand with a stick. We hurried to read it. He had written ‘Hi!’ My friend picked up a stick and wrote another ‘Hi!’ next to it. When we were walking back home, I heard this deep voice behind us, ‘Hi! Can I join you?’ My friend said, ‘Sure’. Later, after she had left, he asked me, ‘Will you have coffee with me in the evening?’ I just nodded.”

Zarine also reminisced about her first date with Sanjay.

Sanjay was standing on the beach at sunset, dressed in a white shirt and white slacks, Kolhapuri chappals, and holding a Tolstoy book, she said.

And there she was, sun-tanned and dressed in a three-tiered skirt with an off-shoulder top. Sanjay was 18 and she was 12 at the time, she added.

Sanjay informed her about his life narrative as they strolled together, thoroughly engrossing her.

He proposed to her the next day, to which she replied in a very intelligent manner, saying that if she still has emotions for him after a year, she will undoubtedly accept his proposal.

He was taken aback by her and vowed to make Zarine his girl after hearing this.

Zarine had started modeling and was being tipped as the next Miss India. Persis, Zarine was even offered a two-year contract by Khambatta (supermodel/fashionista).

However, her boyfriend (Sanjay) was so possessive that he told her, “Either you go to London or stay with me.”

Zarine took note of this and chose to be with him, and she was glad she did. Zarine stopped modeling when she was 17 years old. The young couple had moved into a small flat for which they had to pay Rs 400 in rent.

The young couple opted to sublet it to Balraj Sahani’s cousin for Rs 250 because Rs 400 was too much for them to afford at the moment.

To this, the actress frequently responds with a witty remark, “We only had one fan, which we split between us.”

Their rented apartment proved to be really fortunate for them. Abbas began signing films soon after.

In the early 1960s, he acquired Satyen Bose’s Dosti and Chetan Anand’s Haqeeqat. Abbas became known as the silver jubilee star since they were both silver jubilees.”

On April 16, 1966, the couple married and had three children, Farah, Simone, and Sussanne.

That Double Trouble Turning Point In Zarine Katrak Khan’s Life

Zarine had to face the inconceivable and unwelcome nightmares of her life when she was pregnant with their son Zayed Khan (an actor; who was reared as a Muslim, is the youngest of four children, and the only son of his parents) in the late 1970s.

Rumors about Sanjay’s involvement with Zeenat Aman, the heroine of Abdullah (1980), spread around the house. It was all unexpected.

Zarine went through a lot of emotional difficulties after this occurrence while she was pregnant with Zayed.

However, the actress exuded self-assurance. She’d wear six-inch heels in the ninth month of her pregnancy just to look fashionable, to put on a strong face despite her heartbreak.

She began working as an interior designer at that time. “I threw a tantrum and gave him an ultimatum that I’d walk out,” she says, in order to keep her home from falling apart.

Things began to return to normal after that. It was all gone as soon as the mad wind’ passed.

However, following a reported violent incident between Sanjay and Zeenat at a five-star hotel, the tumultuous narrative came to a close.

According to Zarine, the media treated Sanjay unfairly. She said that

They unnecessarily attacked Abbas. They made him out to be the evil one. I” she defends Sanjay adding gently, “Now, looking back, I feel so bad. I even said hello to her (Zeenat). Today she’s happy, I am happy, life has moved on, it’s over!”

While the storm passed, the family was faced with yet another challenge from the fire.

It appeared as if someone had cursed the family’s happily ever after. The family had to face more terrible moments one after the other.

A fire broke out in Premier Studios in Mysore on February 8, 1989, while Sanjay was filming the epic series The Sword of Tipu Sultan. Sanjay received 65 percent burns as a result of the event.

‘He has only a 10% chance of survival,’ the doctor told the family. Zarine’s world has come crashing down around her.

When she entered the room, she noticed that this formerly attractive man had become fat and dark. She, on the other hand, remained strong and gave strength to him.

Zarine said it was only possible because of her patron saint, Sai Baba of Shirdi, who aided Sanjay in surviving 13 months in the hospital and 72 procedures.

Zarine has always served as an inspiration to her daughters, particularly Sussanne Roshan, who is married to Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan.

‘She’s the girl I’ll marry,’ a young Duggu (Hrithik Roshan) had said to his pals when Sussanne was at her ugliest, with her two front teeth protruding.

He’s known Sussanne since he was a stutterer and never envisaged himself as a celebrity. They’ve developed together since she was the one who pushed and mentored him.” Zarine is certain they’re meant to be together.

“When Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai was still in the works, and Sussanne made a promise to give up sweets in exchange for Hrithik’s success.

Hrithik kept his word and married her soon after the film’s premiere.

Susi is Duggu’s sole source of income. A wild wind may come and go, but it will never blow their home away.”
